Bud Grant, a former head coach and player in the National Basketball Association as well as a former CFL and NFL football player, died away on March 11th at the age of 95.
Grant was the Minnesota Vikings’ second (from 1966 to 83) and fourth (1985) head coach in the National Football League. During his 18 seasons in that position, the team won four Super Bowl appearances, 11 division titles, one league championship, and three National Football Conference titles.

Before leading the Vikings, he spent ten seasons as the head coach of the Canadian Football League’s Winnipeg Blue Bombers, leading them to four Grey Cup victories.

With a combined 286 victories in the NFL and CFL, Grant is the most successful head coach in Vikings history and the sixth most successful professional football coach overall.
Grant was inducted into both the National Football Hall of Fame and the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 1983 and 1994, respectively. The only other coach, Marv Levy, was the first to lead teams to both the Grey Cup and the Super Bowl.

Grant was chosen in the NFL and NBA Drafts after graduating from the University of Minnesota. He was chosen in the opening round.
He joined the Lakers for the 1950–51 NBA season after appearing in 35 games during the 1949–50 NBA season. Due to their proximity to him and the fact that they offered him a raise to remain for the season, he decided to continue his basketball career with the Lakers.
Grant’s choice to stay with the Lakers may have been influenced by the fact that Sid Hartman was the general manager of the organization. He played two seasons as a Lakers reserve, averaging 2.6 points per game, and was a part of the 1950 title squad. He passed away in 2022, making Arnie Ferrin the eldest NBA Champion still alive.
